What is Painted Truth?

A canvas for the stories we were told not to tell.

Painted Truth is an art-based storytelling initiative that transforms real human experiences into visual art. It was created to preserve and amplify the voices of Afghan women and girls at a time when many cannot speak freely. Instead of relying on words alone, Painted Truth allows stories to be expressed through painting — a form that can be seen, felt, and understood across cultures. Each artwork is based on a real, lived experience. An artist interprets the story and translates it into a visual narrative, turning personal truth into something visible and lasting.

Painted Truth is not only about art. It is about memory, expression, and the quiet resistance to being seen.

Our Mission

Our mission is to give silenced stories a canvas.

Painted Truth empowers individuals — especially women and girls in restrictive or unheard environments — to share their lived experiences safely through art. By transforming real stories into visual narratives, we raise awareness, preserve truth, and create emotional connections that inspire understanding and change.

Our Vision

We envision a world where art bridges empathy and truth.

A world where stories that are often silenced are not erased, but seen — painted, remembered, and honored. We envision a global movement where art becomes a safe space for expression, a record of truth, and a tool for dignity and connection.
